Oral health impacts much more than teeth. Migraines, facial pain, clicking jaw, or even tinnitus may be a sign of a TMJ disorder. Dr. Jill Seguin offers a variety of TMJ treatment options in Highland MI. Because this condition can manifest very differently from one patient to the next, she will perform a thorough evaluation before recommending a personalized treatment plan.

Common TMJ symptoms

TMJ is an acronym, referring to the temporomandibular joint. In common terms, it is your jaw. If you’ve ever bitten your tongue, you know that jaw muscles exert a tremendous amount of force. Despite being quite powerful, the jaw is very complex and delicate, with tendons, joint pads, and nerves. A dysfunction of this joint can cause a surprising array of symptoms.

Though every patient experiences TMJ disorder differently, some of the most common symptoms include:

  • TMJ headaches and migraines
  • Locked jaw, limited movement, or joint stiffness
  • Pain when yawning or chewing

  • Facial pain, particularly around the cheeks, ears, and neck

  • Degradation of the joint
