Keep Your Smile Healthy and Beautiful with Routine Dental Cleanings

While your daily dental care is incredibly important, it isn’t sufficient for optimal dental health. The tiny grooves on your teeth, particularly the molars, are challenging to clean with a toothbrush. Insufficient cleaning of these surfaces can lead to the accumulation of plaque and tartar in your mouth, which can compromise your oral health.

Our expert team at Milford Dental and Associates, Highland, Michigan, is trained to clean hard-to-reach spots in your mouth, ensuring every little spot of plaque and tartar buildup is removed using professional-grade equipment. Routine dental cleanings compensate for the gaps left by your home dental care.

What to expect during a routine dental cleaning

Although each patient is different, Milford Dental and Associates recommends all patients see a dentist every six months for professional dental cleaning. However, if you are at risk of cavities and gum disease, you should see a dentist more frequently.

An oral assessment precedes dental cleaning or prophylaxis (or simply “prophy”) to rule out gum disease and other oral pathologies. If you have a clean bill of health, our dental hygienist will proceed with teeth cleaning.

During a dental cleaning, we use a scaler or ultrasound device to scrape away dental calculus between the teeth and below the gum line. Then, we expertly floss your teeth to rid of any lurking debris. Finally, we use a high-powered toothbrush with gritty toothpaste to smooth and polish your teeth to remove surface stains to add luster to your smile.

We expect to see you in the next six months unless you have dental issues requiring follow-up visits. Before your next appointment, brush twice and floss daily to keep your oral health on track.
