Digital Radiographs
Digital radiographs are a form of imaging, where digital x-rays sensors are used instead of dental film. They help provide better care and provide a more accurate diagnosis. The process of taking dental radiographs now is much faster, safer and more comfortable for the patient.
There are several advantages to using Digital Radiographs:
Less radiation. These sensors are much more sensitive, which allows for a reduction in radiation by as much as 80 percent.
Immediate diagnosis of images. With dental film, there was a five to seven minute delay before being able to view the film. Also with dental film, we were forced to look at an image that was only one inch by two inches small. Now these digital images can be expanded to whatever size that we need.
Communication with other dental practitioners. The ability to send the digital images to other dentists is one of the most useful advantages. As soon as the radiograph is taken, the image is displayed on the computer monitor. These images are emailed within a matter of minutes and can be discussed even while talking on the telephone.
